FAQs

Are your recipes appropriate for vegetarians or those with other dietary restrictions?

22 out of 24 recipes are vegetarian. Of the two that are not, one recipe calls for salmon, and the other prosciutto. We include recipes that contain common allergens such as peanut, soy, gluten, egg, and dairy. We would like to hear from you if you would like to see digital content with ingredient substitute suggestions and nutritional information.

Are your recipes suitable for picky eaters?

One of our goals for FOODS i EAT is that by giving kids choice in what they eat, it will help break down some barriers to trying new snacks and meals. While every kid is different, we have seen the kids in our own circles enjoy the novelty of selecting food from the photos they see on the cards and then watching or helping to make it.

What are the cards made of, and are they suitable for young children?

The cards and storage box are made out of a thick, heavy card stock with a wipeable coating to withstand regular use in the kitchen. They are printed using child-safe inks and dyes, and are cut with curved corners to keep them appropriate for use by children ages 1 and up.

What is displayed on each card?

Each card features an original photograph of a whole food on one side and a short recipe and photo of the finished dish on the other. Many of the whole foods and dishes were grown in our backyard or cooked in our kitchen in Stowe, VT. With bright colors, simple instructions, and clear pictures, they are each designed to help children learn about the ingredients and techniques behind their favorite snacks.

Where are the cards made?

They were designed in Vermont and are being manufactured in Michigan.
